Zakat

An obligationof solidarity

A pillar of Islam, a duty of solidarity, a source of hope for the most deprived.

Zakat is one of the five pillars of Islam. Far more than a financial contribution, it is an act of worship, a purification of wealth and a responsibility towards the most vulnerable.

By fulfilling your Zakat, you show your obedience to Allah and help relieve the hardships of those in need.

Through 1001 SADAQA Islamic, we wish to make this religious obligation easier to fulfil by organising the collection and distribution of Zakat to eligible beneficiaries, in line with Islamic prescriptions.

زكاة

Allah says:

“Take from their wealth a charity by which you purify them and cause them to increase.”

Surah At-Tawbah, verse 103 — approximate translation of the meaning

1 · Zakat al-Fitr

So that everyone can celebrate Eid with dignity

Share the blessings of Ramadan and bring joy to families in need.

Zakat al-Fitr is an obligation linked to the end of the blessed month of Ramadan.

It helps purify the fast from idle and improper talk and feeds the poor.

The Prophet ﷺ prescribed Zakat al-Fitr as a purification for the one who fasts and food for the needy.

Sunan Abu Dawud, hadith 1609

2 · Zakat al-Maal

Your wealth, a responsibility and a blessing

Purify your wealth and help support those who need it most.

Zakat al-Maal is an annual obligation for Muslims whose zakatable assets meet the required conditions, notably the Nisab and, depending on the type of asset, the holding period.

For many categories of wealth, the applicable rate is 2.5%, subject to the specific rules for each type of asset.

Through your Zakat al-Maal, you can help lastingly improve the living conditions of eligible beneficiaries.

Who can receive Zakat?

The Quran sets out eight categories of Zakat recipients in Surah At-Tawbah, verse 60:

  1. 01The poor (Al-Fuqara).
  2. 02The needy (Al-Masakin).
  3. 03Those employed to administer Zakat.
  4. 04Those whose hearts are to be reconciled.
  5. 05The freeing of people in bondage.
  6. 06Eligible people in debt.
  7. 07The category designated as Fi Sabilillah.
  8. 08Travellers in difficulty.

How some categories apply is a matter of legal divergence among scholars. 1001 SADAQA will apply documented eligibility criteria, validated by a qualified religious advisor.
